新譜が質量ともに充実していた一方、リイシューや発掘盤の音源は点数的に停滞気味だったような気がしてならない。特にソウルやファンクがつまらん。ネタ切れだとか、コロナ禍で何かと交渉やらマスターテープの発掘やらが難航しているのだろうなとか、CDというフォーマットがいよいよ本当の本当に終わりなのだろうなとか、思うところはあるのだが、まあどっちも本当だろう。

とはいえ質は秀逸で、選出したアルバムはいずれも強力。Trashのようなレア盤再発あり、プリンスやルー・リード、イギーのような貴重音源大盤振る舞いなスーパーデラックスエディションあり、三上寛やモータウンといった発掘音源ありと、なんだかんだでかなり充実していたな。

サブスクで音だけ聴きまくったプリンスとルー・リードだが、考えてみればDVDもついてこそのスーパーデラックスエディションなのではないかという疑問がないわけでもないが、映像があってもなくても聴きまくったし、素晴らしいのだからしょうがない。考えてみたら中学からずっと聴き続けてるし。でも、DVDもあったらもっといいんだろうなあ。

そんな強烈なレア盤や未発表音源の中である意味で印象に残ったのはエリオット・マーフィーのサントラ。普通のテイクばかりのいわばベスト盤なのだが、胸を打つ曲ばかり。やはり好きだなと。

2020年は貪るように音楽を聴いた。

サブスクで物理的に聞き放題の上、コロナ禍で例年以上に音楽を聴く時間が有り余っていたものだから、音楽を聴く以外にどうしようもなかった。

元からフォローしているアーティストの数は相当な数に上っていたが、さらにサービス側がリコメンドしてくるアーティストや楽曲まで押さえたり、さらにそこから広げてゆくともうどうしようもない。2020年は新譜だけで500ぐらいは聞いただろう。困ったのは供給過多というべき状況の上に、質のいいアルバムが余りにも多かったこと。2020年ベストアルバムを10枚選べ？　なんと無理難題な。100は欲しい。それぐらい2020年はよい作品との出会いが多かった。まあ、逆に言えば突出した個性やクオリティの作品に乏しかったと言えなくもないのだが。

 

あれを選ぶならこれを落とすのはおかしいだろうなどとグダグダ選びあぐねつつ、今回選出した20枚はただの気分。2時間後に選んだら全然違うものになり得る。ディランやニール・ヤング、ブーツィー、ドン・ブライアント、ダン・ペン、ジェームス・ハンター・シックス、ルシンダ・ウイリアムス、スティーブ・フォーバートといった本来のフェイバリットを選ばなかったのは、十分な出来栄えであることは認めつつも、彼らの過去作と並べるとどうしても聴く頻度が落ちてしまったから。そんな現在進行形のレジェンドたちの新譜で印象に残ったのはクリス・スミザー、ルイ・フィリップ。

白人の若手ソウルやシンガーソングライターもよく聞いたが、突出した個性云々という問題で選ばず。流して聴くにはすばらしい作品は尽きなかったのだけど。

日本人アーティストはそれほどリピートしなかったから選ばなかったが、Boys Age、浦上想起、ドッコイセハウス、青葉市子がよかった。

新譜以外ではP-FUNK、プリンス、スライ、ロジャー・ザップ、オハイオ・プレイヤーズ、ルー・リード、ビブラストーンあたりか。ジャンルとしてはファンクだな。あと、２０２０年ほどヒップホップをマジメに聞いた年はなかった。
